The Chatterbox: a.k.a Community Questions a live discussion space
Join us for a relaxed, open-accessibility discussion space where the focus is on questions, not answers.
Aprils’ session is all about community-led curiosity. Bring your own questions, or explore ones sourced from recent community conversations. There’s no fixed agenda — just space to share thoughts, experiences, and perspectives with others who care about making digital spaces in education more inclusive.
Whether you’re new to digital accessibility or have been championing it for years, your voice is welcome here.
What to expect:
- Thought-provoking questions around everyday accessibility challenges
- Space to explore, reflect, and connect — without pressure to have it all figured out
- A sense of community and shared learning among UK education staff
Some example questions we might explore:
- What does “good enough” accessibility look like when time is tight?
- How do you respond when someone says, “We’ll fix it later”?
- What have your students taught you about accessibility?
- How do we create space for accessibility conversations in busy teams?
- Have you ever changed your mind about an accessibility issue? What caused that shift?
You don’t need to prepare anything — just show up, listen in, and contribute wherever you’d like.
About the community drop-in
Are you struggling to meet web accessibility regulations? Or reshaping your digital provision to make teaching and learning more inclusive?
This live online accessibility community drop-in gives you the opportunity to ask questions about digital inclusion, provide feedback on areas that are problematic, and share your accessibility journey with others.
During the drop-in you'll:
- Have an opportunity to share your experiences with and learn from like-minded people at different stages of developing accessible policy and practice
- Gain feedback and support on any areas that may have been problematic
- Get signposting to other resources and links to communities of practice where appropriate
- Establish links with people working to overcome the same problems
- Get the opportunity to shape the Jisc offer in this area
Sessions are led by our subject specialists Laura Hutton and Kellie Mote, with input from colleagues and recognised specialists.
Accessibility community drop-ins will run from 12:30 to 13:30 on the first Wednesday of each month during the academic calendar.
Who should attend?
Anyone interested in accessibility. You don't need to be an expert or working in accessibility to contribute. If you're interested in making the world more accessible for everyone, you're welcome!
Monthly drop-ins are open to Jisc member organisations (UK further education colleges, specialist colleges or higher education institutions).

March 2025 - Exploring generative AI and accessible communication
Dr Andy Coverdale | University of Southampton
Dr Katy Brickley, translator at Go Easy Read and visiting research associate at King’s College London explore how we can ensure that our written communication can be understood by as many people as possible. They share many years' experience of working and conducting research with people with learning disabilities and draw on a recent project with experts by experience exploring the use of generative AI to create accessible texts. In March's session, they outline the role of 'Easy Read' and similar formats, comparing traditional methods of co-production with emergent generative AI practices.
