Vision for accessibility workshop
Supporting you to develop a cross-organisational, strategic approach to implementing digital accessibility.
Meeting Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 involves considering a wide range of digital content and ensuring that people across your organisation know what they need to do, and how they will do it. It is an ongoing process, not a one-time event.
Aims of the workshop
Being a digitally accessible organisation requires leadership and vision. This workshop will bring together the key people in your organisation to plan for positive, sustainable change.
For an overview of the types of digital content in scope of the regulations and the steps that need to be taken, please review our practical steps to meeting accessibility regulations guide.
How does it work?
Prior to the workshop, it is essential that all participants complete a brief exercise. The responses to this task will inform the initial 'visioning' discussion.
During the rest of the workshop, we will support you to:
- Share ideas, thoughts and feelings that will shape your unique organisational vision
- Identify potential barriers and possible mitigations for them
- Work with models that will help in developing a structured approach
- Consider priorities and start planning what will happen after the workshop
Who should attend?
The Central Digital and Data Office (the monitoring body for regulatory compliance) states that the responsibility under the accessibility regulations lies with the senior responsible officer, or the executive team. As such, accessibility should be championed and led by a member of the senior leadership team.
In addition to the senior responsible officer, it is essential that the other participants are in positions of sufficient authority to lead change across the organisation.
Also included, should be participants that have a good understanding of what it means to be an accessible organisation, and an understanding of the issues that might be encountered while improving accessibility.
To be most effective, the number of participants should be limited to 16 key personnel.
Areas of the organisation that should be represented amongst the participants might include:
- Curriculum leaders and teaching representatives
- Web content and design
- VLE managers
- Marketing and communications
- Procurement
- Library and learning resources
"The vision for accessibility workshop delivery by Jisc is revolutionary through collaborating with leadership and decision makers across an institution by having an open and honest dialogue about where the institution is and where it wants to go"
