Jisc session - Wednesday 22 January

Digital shocks and border crossings: international students’ digital experience

This talk will highlight global regional differences in international students’ digital experience and what can be done to mitigate ‘digital shock’.

Jisc and the Portulans Institute have published digital country profiles for Nigeria, India, Pakistan, and China– four key countries for UK HE student recruitment.

These profiles describe the impact of a country’s civil digital infrastructure on students’ digital experience, particularly during their transition to UK higher education. The findings provide valuable insights for HE professionals involved in recruiting, teaching, and supporting international students, offering recommendations to help ease digital border crossings.

  • Elizabeth Newall, Senior sector specialist (digital transformation), Jisc
  • Yining (Evelyn) Tang, Digital Education Adviser, University of Oxford
