OPERAS-UK is the national node for UK members of OPERAS, convened and hosted by Jisc.
OPERAS is the research infrastructure supporting open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities in the European research area. Its mission is to coordinate and federate resources in Europe to efficiently address the scholarly communication needs of European researchers in the field of SSH.
About the community
The national nodes play a pivotal role in establishing connection points inside and outside the OPERAS community, in promoting a proximity relation with local communities, helping to identify needs, provide services and training, and are especially important to raise awareness of what is being developed at a national level.
OPERAS-UK is a friendly, supportive space for UK members of OPERAS to meet, collaborate, network, share ideas and spot opportunities.
Benefits
- Tailored trainings on OPERAS services and access to innovative services that support the creation and dissemination of SSH outputs across Europe. OPERAS empowers researchers with services to discover open scholarly publications, improve transparency of peer-review practices, measure usage and impact of open access books, foster research dialogues
- Access to EU funding for UK researchers as well as access to the EU market for UK members and their services. OPERAS is an infrastructure already able to bid for EU funding and to include the UK in these calls
- Opportunity to participate in EU projects coordinated by OPERAS
- Access to exclusive information about activities through the members’ mailing list, with an exclusive channel to the OPERAS coordination team and a privileged access to the different kinds of expertise within it
‘The Open Book Collective (OBC) were delighted to become an Ordinary Member of OPERAS in 2024. In part, this is because OPERAS is a vital research infrastructure that actively supports open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) across the European Research Area. However, OPERAS values, mission, and approach to supporting open research dovetails neatly with OBC's through its vibrant and diverse community of practice.' Kevin Sanders, Open Book Collective
